First Southern is a Southern Baptist Church serving the community of Overland Park, Kansas. Established in 1959 First Southern has provided a place for individuals and families to pursue a personal relationship with God. That relationship begins with a profession of faith in Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior (Romans 10:8,9&13).

Following New Testament baptism a Christian finds a place of service to honor God and to grow in his own personal relationship. The church looks to the Bible as a true and relevant expression of the will of God to all of His creation. As God’s word the Bible contains vast knowledge, but is criticized by the world as being out of date.

The task of the Bible is to identify sin in the life of an individual and to provide a way of cleansing from sin. This is seen as judgmental when in fact it is the first step in healing. The believer will find that the Bible is, in fact, always accurate and appropriate to a full and meaningful life. (2 Timothy 3:16,17).

The Bible is God’s Word to Man, our standard for faith and practice as a church. We believe that every individual is accountable to God for everything they say and do. The fellowship of a church is to provide for the encouragement and growth of all members (Hebrews 10:25). We seek God’s leadership and are accountable to Him first and foremost. Our membership is open to all who will accept these principles as governing guidelines for your participation in the fellowship of First Southern Baptist Church of Overland Park.

Meet Our Staff

Dr. Carl “Bucky” Hitchcock, Pastor
Dr. Hitchcock has pastored churches in Oklahoma, Illinois, and Missouri. Dr. Hitchcock came to First Southern October 1, 2003 from Emmanuel Baptist Church of Overland Park, KS.

Mr. Brad Barker, Director of Music
Brad coordinates the music ministry at First Southern Baptist Church and is always eager to add new voices to the choir.

Mr. Chuck Riddle, Youth Intern
Chuck coordinates the youth activities as well as working with young adults at First Southern Baptist Church. Chuck always has lots of fun and spiritual programs going on at all times.

Dr. Daryl Richey, Church Counselor
Dr. Richey holds a Masters Degree in Psychology and a Doctoral Degree in Counseling Psychology. He has served as a practicing counselor with the Kansas City Veterans Affairs Medical Center since 1992. Currently he is a Staff Psychologist at the Center.
